TAYLOR MURRAY LEADS ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL TO THE B CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
St. Timothy's was trying to repeat as IAAM champions. Last year's C conference champs moved up to the B conference and posted a 13-9 record on the season. Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) went 15-1 in conference and 22-3 overall.
AACS took a 17-13 lead after one quarter as Coach Victor Watson mixed up his defenses. They used a couple of zones and a couple of presses to keep St. Timothy's off balance, but senior Kristen Kunaniec's three point shooting kept it close. Senior Taylor Murray used her speed to penetrate St. Tim's defense and constantly create open shots for her teammates. Jordyn Hursh and Shannon Baden in particular have learned to play off her. AACS took a 26-21 lead into the half.
The 3rd quarter belonged to Taylor Murray. She showed why she is a major D1 recruit headed to Kentucky. She took over the game and scored 15 points in the quarter. Jess Berman's free throws for St. Tim's cut the lead to 30-26 and then AACS went on a 19-4 run. St. Timothy's battled hard in the 4th but they could not cut that lead any closer than 13.
The final score was 57 to 41 and this turned out to be a great showcase for AACS and Murray. Most people in the area have not had a chance to watch her play. Her teammates showed that they are solid players as well they have a championship to show for it. Murray finished the game with 31 points, 25 coming in the second half. Kristen Kunaniec scored 12 for St.Timothy's.
