695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
District Heights, MD
46 players dragged their parents out to Bishop McNamara in PG County on Labor Day so they could participate in the She Got Game Combine. The promotion and administrative duties for the event were handled by Tink Butler of Next Sports Phenom and Meri Davis of Get Me Recruited.
Several high schools were in attendance to scout the talent or check on the players they have already reeled in. Bishop Ireton, Bishop O'Connell, Capital Christian, National Christian, New Hope, Riverdale Baptist, St. John's College, St. Mary's Ryken and of course the host McNamara were all spotted. The Shot Doctor Keith Veney, Darren Mclinton and Shamon Antrum did the heavy lifting as they organized the drills and demonstated when necessary. The drills were heavy on communication and defense, so at the times the activities were more cerebral than physical.
There was a good mix of players from the classes of 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. That's 5th through 9th grade if you're keeping track. Next Sports Phenom selected and MVP, Kennedy Clifton, who is pictured below and a full all tournament team that you can see here.
Here are some of the standouts from the day in my opinion...
The Real MVP's
The parents who brought their kids out on a holiday at the end of the summer and sat in a hot gym so they could ball out.
Scott Buckley (Roland Park AD) who volunteered to come up from Baltimore to educate the parents on NCAA qualifying standards. Best tip of the day was never, ever let your child accept a grade that ends in a 9. Push for that extra point because it makes a huge difference.
Some players that caught my eye in no particular order...
Zoe Osby, 2026, Dora Kennedy French Immersion School
At 5'10" with a soft touch Ms. Osby is a load for defenders. She is very effective in the paint for her age and solidly built.
McKenzie Thomas, 2024, New Hope Academy
Nice wing prospect from what is shaping up as talented class. A smooth operator with a nice mid range touch and a solid on ball defender. She can probably dance a little bit because her footwork looked superb.
2022 Kennedy Clifton, Bishop Ireton, Received the Official MVP Award.
Miss Clifton showed off the full arsenal on her way to receiving the day's most prestigious hardware.
The unofficial 695Hoops MVP J'Khya Jordan, 2022, Archbishop Carroll
Ms. Jordan went hard all day. She talked non-stop throughout the drills and during the scrimmages. She encouraged her teammates and maintained a positive attitude the whole day. And yes, she balled a little bit too. She has good vision and this allowed her to make the right passes at the right times. She knocked down a couple of threes and made some strong power moves to the hoop.
Gabrielle Kennerly, 2023, Ellicott Miils Middle
Gabrielle is turning into quite a prospect. She is an exceptional athlete and especially dangerous on the fast break. Tough and versatile player that can finish through contact.
Amber Perry, 2024, Thomas VIaduct Middle
Amber came to play. She has some nice hesitation moves and a strong handle. She has a good first step and nice pull up game so she kept defenders off balance. She straps up on defense too.
Jayla Tucker, 2024, New Hope
Nice athlete with some length. She made some nice drives and finished. Got hurt but came back in and finished the event. Looking forward to watching her progress.
Savannah Curry, 2024, Fallston Middle.
At 5'10' she has the build and some skills to go with it. She has great size already for a combo guard and she showed that she can create and finish.
Anaiah Jenkins, 2023, Arundel Middle
She owned the boards like Moses Malone. She got multiple offensive rebounds, scored on put backs and showed off a nice midrange game.
Madisyn Moore, 2024, Arundel Middle.
The energizer bunny went hard all day. Attacked aggressively and made some nice passes.
