695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Howard University got their point guard. They recruited Seton Keough's Aaliyah Wilson for over a year and it paid off as she recently made a verbal commitment to play in D.C. The lightening quick floor general chose Howard over Virginia Commonwealth, Norfolk State, Grambling, Alcorn State and Jacksonville State.
695: What made you choose Howard over all the other schools that offered you?
Stixz: The atmosphere. Its very much like a family. The players and coaches are really close. Their schedule is very strong and competitive. The education is good. I just felt it as soon as I stepped on the campus and its close to home, but not too close. I can easliy go home or just stay in D.C. I think I'l lfit in perfectly with their style of play.
695: How old were you when you started playing ball?
Stixz: I was four, but I was officially on a team at seven.
695: What neighborhood did you grow up in?
Stixz: I grew up around Greenmount avenue.
695: Do you play any other sports?
Stixz: I run track too.
695: What AAU teams have you played for?
Stixz: I've played for the Lady Lions, Sureshots ,Baltimore Storm and Maryland Select.
695: You recently transferred to Seton Keough from St.Frances for your sophomore season. Why the move?
Sitxz: Let's just say people have to make decisions in life to better themselves. St. Frances just wasn't for me and they knew that. Keough is for me right now. It's just where I want to be, around great players and coaches that I can learn from and be taught. It's actually better than I expected. I'm happy and that's all that matters.
695: What are your goals for this high school season?
Stixz: My goals for this season are plain and simple. Be a threat, win and make a bigger name for Keough.
695: What's up with this clothing line? How did you get into that?
Stixz: Ha! (gets excited) my clothing line is called New Testament clothing company. Well lets just say that I'm a kid with more than one dream. It's my back up plan after ball. I love fashion and I'm a very creative person. I draw, so I got that all together and just started it. Now I have a full team. I just say we're just ambitious kids that are going to make it.
695: What type of music is on your Ipod?
Sitxz: On my Ipod right is a little bit of everything. Mainly Kanye West, Kid Cudi and any good pop or hip hop. Music is my best friend.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Stixz: My favorite player would have Ray Allen. Because he plays hard constantly, he is just laid back, but very effective. He never does anything extra thats not in his game. Plus he's a Uconn man, you just can't forget that. But I really admire John Wall too. I like Kevin Durant too.
695: What did you add to your game over the summer?
Stixz: Over the summer I worked on my shot. Everyone thinks I can't shoot, so I made sure that I added that to my game. Now I'll be more of a threat and harder to guard.
695: What do you need to work on?
Stixz: This year I need to work on more of controlling the game, getting my left hand even stronger. I can go both hands but it needs to be crisp.
695: You seemed very focused and extra motivated. What's the source of your motivation?
Stixz: My mom motivates me.You know, she fought a long hard battle with cancer, and this is just my way of thanking her, and making her proud. Every game I kiss her tattoo that is on my hand. I miss her a lot so to ease my mind and stay out of trouble I hoop. I just wish I could hug her after every game, but god makes no mistakes. She's in a better place, and always in my heart. I know if she was here this is what she would be wanting me to do so it's in memory of her.
695: Good stuff and good luck this season. Thank you for your time.
Stixz: No problem and thank you.
Stixz is also nice on the mic. Check out her flow on this joint with A2 (Achiri Ade).
