695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
University of Rhode Island recruit Adreonia Coleman grabbed her scholarship offer by rebounding her way into the spotlight. Ms. Coleman is known for her offensive rebounding prowess and ability to score points without plays being run for her. She is trying to end her senior season (2014) by helping St. Frances win another IAAM championship. She was kind enough to give us a few minutes for a quick interview.
695: How old were you when you started playing?
Adreonia: I was seven years old when I first started playing basketball.
695: Where did you grow up?
Adreonia: I grew up in Essex, MD.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Adreonia: I started with the Lady Lions, then after my 10th grade year I started playing with the Maryland Shooting Stars.
695: Which position are you most comfortable playing?
Adreonia: I'm most comfortable playing the power-forward.
695: What do you want to add to your game for he next level?
Adreonia: I want to add a go to move to my game before I go to the next level.
695: Talk about the recruiting process and how you chose Rhode Island...
Adreonia: My recruiting process was very stressful. I had quite a few schools looking at me, which was exciting due to my commitment and hard work for the game I love to play. So many people where telling me this and that but I had to dig deep for me. At the end of the day I had to be comfortable with myself and decision. The URI coaches and players became my family, the coaches were on the road with me all summer. I felt like they put their trust and loyalty in me, so I had to show the same by taking their offer. When I went on my visit I was comfortable with everything, it felt like home, the team reached out as well and we had a good time when I stayed the night with them.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Adreonia: My favorite player is Lebron James.
695: Tell me about a funny basketball road trip...
Adreonia: I really don't have a funny basketball road trip story but when my Maryland Stars coach got the bus pulled over for speeding I thought that was funny.
695: What artists do you listen to before a game?
Adreonia: I like to listen to Meek Mill and Chief Keef before a game.
695: What are your goals for your senior season?
Adreonia: My goals for my senior year at St.Frances is to win the IAAM championship and to leave St.Frances with a lot of positive memories.
695: Who is going to win the Senior Shoot Out this year, Baltimore or DC?
Adreonia: Baltimore. And I'm playing.
