695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Seton Keough's senior guard Amber Singletary recently signed her national letter of intent to attend the University of Mississippi. In a packed room filled with her family, senior classmates and her Gator teammates and coaches Amber shed a few tears of joy and then signed on the dotted line. It was a festive occassion and I had a chance to ask her a few questions afterwards.
Part 2:
695: Mississippi is far and a lot different from Baltimore. How do you plan to get acclimated to such a big change?
Amber: Well I don't have that big of a problem adjusting to new things and I'll just do the best I can and ask for help when I need to because that's all I can do being that far.
695: You declined offers from all of the local schools...did it get scary for a while before you settled on Ole Miss?
Amber: Yes! It was the most nerve wracking thing ever! I took a big risk and luckily it worked out for me.
695: What did you see at the school that closed the deal for you?
Amber: The head coach (Coach Ladner) and the way the academic advisor walked through things for me.
695: You got pretty emotional at the signing...what was going through your mind?
Amber: It was like a dream come true for me. All my years of hard work and travelling all over creation and finally I got what I wanted.
695: The SEC is a very competitive league with a lot of athletic players. What do you need to improve to be able to compete at that level?
Amber: I need to improve my ballhandling skills and ilift more weights.
695:. What are you most looking forward to about going to college?
Amber: Just playing college basketball and finally being independent and seeing how I do. I think it will be a great experience.
Part 1
695: You have an interesting Facebook page..are you a creative person?
Amber: Yes. I like to think of myself as creative, I think it makes me a more well rounded person.
695: What are you going to study in college?
Amber: I want to study art and business.
695: When did you first start hooping?
Amber: I started when i was about 4 or 5, and then I started organized hoopin' when I was 7.
695: What AAU teams have you played for?
Amber: I have played for the Maryland Waves, the Sureshots,Lady Terps and the Fairfax Stars.
695: Who is your favorite coach out of all that you have had?
Amber: I would have to say out of all my AAU coaches, coach Andy Gaeta. He coached me the longest and I feel like he taught me things when I was younger that some people still don't have down yet.
695: I noticed that you have excellent footwork on defense. Did he help with that?
Amber Yes, but I also owe much of that to Monique Liddell. She was my first trainer and she worked with me on speed and agility.
695: What are your goals for this high school season?
Amber: I plan to be a better leader to my team this year. I also think it would be nice to get my 1,000th point.
695: Who is winning it this year?
Amber: The best and most prepared team will win. We are determined and hungry. So we will see in February.
695: who is your funniest teammate?
Amber: I think I'm pretty funny actually. But besides myself I would say Achiri.
695: Are her her rap skills up to par? I'm interviewing her soon.
Amber:Yes! Achiri is a lyrical genius, sometimes (laughing).
695:I'm looking forward to hearing her stuff. Do you talk trash on the court?
Amber: I'm not much of a trash talker. I feel like your game should speak for itself
.
695:Who is the queen of trash talk in this area?
Amber: WELL, it might just be Achiri. But I wouldn't say she talks trash she just gets fired up.
695: What do you think of the IAAM vs WCAC all-star game in March?
Amber: I think its a good idea. I think people would love to see the two
conferences finally going head to head.
695: What's on your IPOD?
Amber: I have a large variety of music by all kinds of artists. I have music from lil Wayne and Tyga all the way to Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.
695: Any Kool Moe Dee?
Amber: Not quite(laughing). But I have De La Soul and Slick Rick.
695: Impressive. Don't sleep on Moe. How was this summer with the Fairfax Stars?
Amber: It was a good one for me. I learned a lot of things that I can't wait to apply to the highschool season
695: Have you decided on a college?
Amber: No I am still undecided.
695: Ok. Can we get the scoop here at 695Hoops.com when you decide?
Amber: You sure can.
695: Thanks for the chat, I enjoyed it. Good luck this season.
Amber: Anytime. Thank you so much.
