695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
695 went one on one with South River's point guard Domonique Hagins. She talked about the transition back to South River from St.Frances, updated me on her injury and broke down what she plans to add to her game.
695: How old were you when you started playing?
Domonique: I was three years old when I learned how to dribble but was five when i first started playing organized basketball.
695: Where did you grow up?
Domonique: I grew up in Washington, DC.
695: What AAU teams have you played for?
Domonique: I've played with Maryland Lady Shooting Starts since age 10.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Domonique: As I begin to study and follow him more, my favorite player is becoming to be Chris Paul.
695: What do you love about playing this game?
Domonique: I love the competition of the game, the hardwork that is needed, and the never ending talent. One of my favorite parts about this game is that it is a gift to have what it takes to be successful in this game, not everyone has it. Last but not least, my other favorite part of the game is that everyone has their different styles, there is never one 'exact' way to play the game, you always learn new things from other players or coaches to add to your game to improve it.
695: Tell me about a funny AAU road trip....
Domonique: One of the funniest AAU road trips was last year when my team, MD Shooting Stars drove to a tournament in Ohio. There were about 12 players in one small party bus and the drive was 8 hours. There was no place for us all to sleep and be comfortable. My father (Coach Walt) opened the doors of the van by a group of deers as a joke and all my teammates screamed at the top of their lungs. Jonelle Britt (High Point) and Raven Makins (Spalding) had tears pouring from their eyes from fear. I laughed the whole ride there after that prank.
695: What do you need to add to your game?
Domonique: I need to get stronger, get quicker, get healthier and polish my basketball IQ.
695: Do you feel like you're 100% back from your injury?
695: As of right now, I am nearly 75% , but I am giving 120% to help my team be successful.
695: How is it playing at South River compared to St.Frances?
695: I will always thank the coaches and players at St. Frances for the opportunity to play and be a part of their program but South River is allowing me to train, prepare, and develop my basketball skills and IQ for college basketball. Coach Zivic is challenging me to full my potiential of being a great leader and becoming best basketball player I can be.
695: What are your goals for the season?
695: The long term goal for myself and my teammates is to get the chance of playing in the State Championship and winning it. The short term goal for is to go undefeated in our county and come out on top and be the first Anne Arundel County school to win Districts in a long time. My goal for my self this season is to groom my younger players on my team and to help them become the best they can be and to lead my team to the top and become the best.
695: What artists have you added to the iPod lately?
Domonique: The latest artists I put on my iPod was Corey Gunz from Cash Money Young Money Billionaires and Los.
695: I heard you were writing some lyrics. Are you getting on this remix with Stixz, A Squared and Me?
Domonique: (Laughing) Yes, but this is the first verse of lyrics I ever wrote for a song, I'm into poetry so I only wrote poems, but it should be fun and interesting joining the movement.
695: Thanks and good luck the rest of the season.
Domonique: Thank you
