695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
John Carroll's six foot forward Emily Soller recently signed with Chestnut Hill in Pennsylvania. The sharp shooting senior recently led the Patriots to their first IAAM B conference championship by turning in a stellar performance in every big game of the season. 695Hoops caught up to Ms. Soller after her signing and she answered some questions about how she's getting ready for the CACC.
695: When did you start playing ball?
Emily: I started playing when I was around 10 years old.
695: Have you played any other sports?
Emily: I've played field hockey, volleyball, and softball. And I tried track and field but it wasn't really for me.
695: Where did you grow up?
Emily: I've lived in Harford County all my life.
695: Tell me about playing at John Carroll. What was the experience like?
Emily: Freshman year I would've never thought that we would be moving up to the A conference or made it to the championship two years in a row and eventually winning it. We worked hard and were determined to make this team one to remember. Coach Blizzard came in with a great vision for the team and we were lucky to have the right people on the team that had a positive attitude.
695: What else do you do besides play ball?
Emily: I like to hang out with my friends but Harford County is kind of boring so we just try to make the best out of it.
695: What made you decide to attend Chestnut Hill?
Emily: The coaches are great and they really made me feel like I was already one of their players before signing. And the team just took me under their wing and made me feel right at home. The school itself was just a good fit for me. It's a small school which I like and in a good location right outside Philadelphia.
695: What are you going to major in?
Emily: I'm considering either Education or Communications. I haven't really decided yet.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Emily: This is a tough one... I would have to say Kevin Durant. He's just a great overall player.
695: What do you need to add to your game for the next level?
Emily: I need to work on my left hand, ball handling, and I just need to keep shooting.
695: Tell me something people might not know about you...
Emily: I did dance for 8 years: jazz, tap, ballet, gymnastics, and hip hop. I started that before I played any sports at all.
695: Good luck.
Emily: Thanks Coach.
