695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
After a solid senior season at Meade High school Jamie McKeither caught the eye of several colleges looking for a tough, versatile player. Nyack College of the CACC has gotten the player they hope will help them turn their program around. Ms. McKeither signed with the christian school because she liked the college town setting and the fact that it is only minutes away from New York City. With a chance to step in and play right away, it seems like a good fit for both parties. You can read our previous interview with Ms. McKeither below.
695: How old were you when you started playing?
Jamie: Well I've been playing basketball since I was 5, so that makes 11 years so far.
695: What are you up to this summer?
Jamie: This summer I'll be traveling a lot with my AAU team Blue Star for showcase tournaments.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Jamie: Previous AAU teams that I have played for are the Beltway Lady Cougars, Maryland Lady Lakers, Maryland Shooting Stars, And I'm currently with Blue Star.
695: Meade high has had some success the last couple of seasons. How do you feel about the direction of the program?
Jamie: Yes, the success has been a good feeling. I feel very proud of the work we put in and the dedication from my coach that he has put into our team.
695: What are you looking to add to your game this summer?
Jamie: I'm looking towards really working more on my originality getting to the basket. A simple right handed or left handed lay-up won't always work, so I'm going to be working on a variety of ways to get to the basket.
695: What position are you most comfortable playing?
Jamie: Honestly, I'm very comfortable playing the guard and small forward like I have been doing for years, though I can always learn something new.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Jamie: My favorite player has to be Maya Moore. The way she can score constant baskets with that much intensity and still keep hustling up and down the court really inspires me.
695: Tell me about a funny AAU road trip story...
Jamie: A funny story from a road trip with my team is when everyone was walking up the steps on our bus, and almost every person after another just kept missing the top step and kept falling. That was a funny day.
695: What music do you listen to before a game?
Jamie: Before a game, I tend to listen to a lot of rap music that gets my heart pumped before my games.
695: What's your favorite food?
Jamie: My favorite food to eat is a well seasoned steak from off of the grill.
695: Can you dance or do you hold up the wall at a party?
Jamie: I'm a whole different person at parties. When I hit the floor all of my worries just go out the window and I feel free.
695: What do you plan to study in college?
Jamie: In college I'm going to be really excited to study Pre-law/criminal justice because I want to get my master's in Law. I really enjoy the court room and want to be a criminal lawyer one day.
695: Who is your favorite coach that you have had so far?
Jamie: My favorite has to be Coach Kevin McLean. He was my first AAU coach for Beltway Lady Cougars and he taught me how to drive to the basket, and never be scared of your opponent. He meant everything to me in my basketball life and that will always remain. R.I.P Coach Kevin
695: Thanks for your time and good luck this summer.
Jamie: Thank you and I'm honored to be on 695 Hoops.
