695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
695Hoops caught up with Jonquel Jones, the 6'3" forward from the Bahamas who is a senior at Riverdale Baptist this year. We talked about how she made the decision to attend Clemson University and found out more about her basketball background.
695: Where did you grow up?
Jonquel: I grew up in The Bahamas on Grand Bahama island.
695: How did you start playing basketball?
Jonquel: I started playing basketball after watching my father play and through an organisation called Hoytes. It stands for helping our youth through education and sports.
695: Did you play any other sports?
Jonquel: Yes. I've basically played every sport. I ran for the Bahamian National team when I was younger, I also played for The Bahamas U15 national soccer team and I played softball and volleyball.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Jonquel: I played for the Fairfax Stars and BooWilliams Maryland this year.
695: How was the recruiting experience for you?
Jonquel: It was a great but tedious process, but knowing what you want out of a school makes it a much easier one.
695: What do you want to add to your game for college?
Jonquel: Everything! There's never something you can't work on or a move or skill set that doesn't need sharpening. I love the factory because that's where great players produce and get better
695: What made you decide to attend Clemson?
Jonquel: The coaching staff was a factor, the bond that I shared with the girls, the feeling of being comfortable and happy for four years of my life and the fact that everyone on campus is committed to the future success of the program.
695: What do you plan to major in at Clemson?
Jonquel:I plan to major in sports management. I can see myself out there one day coaching and mentoring players.
695: What is your favorite food and who do you like to cook it?
Jonquel: My favorite food is anything Bahamian, you appreciate things more when you can't get it as often and my mother and father are the best to cook it!
695: What musical artists do you listen to?
Jonquel: Before games the only artist I listen to is J.Cole. Other than that I like Drake, Wale and Reggaemusic.
695: What are you looking forward to about the high school season?
Jonquel: I'm definitely looking forward to winning the Nike TOC in Phoenix and playing against schools like Nazareth and Mater Dei this season.
695: Thanks for your time and good luck.
Jonquel: Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
