695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Aberdeen's fearless junior point guard Kierra "Kiki" Palmer recently committed to Liberty University. She recently talked about her recruiting experience and how she is looking to add a third championship to the rafters at Aberdeen High school.
695: How old were you when you started playing ball?
Kiki: I was 4 years old when I started playing rec ball.
695: How did you get started?
Kiki: I wanted to play but I was too young, so when my mom signed me up she put on the sheet that I was 7 so that I could play. But she told me if I couldn’t keep up she was going to pull me off the team.
695: I guess that worked out well. Which AAU teams have you played for?
Kiki: I started out with the Baltimore Starz with Coach Rosendale, the Baltimore Cougars, Sam Cassell All Stars, Sure Shots, MD Shooting Stars and Fairfax Stars.
695: What was the highlight of your summer?
Kiki: When I played up with the Gold Team in the USJN’s. I got to play against players already committed to Division 1, so it was a good experience.
695: What are you looking forward to during your freshman season?
Kiki: I’m looking forward to playing in the state championship.
695: What do you want to add to your game?
Kiki: To be more of a leader on the court and to become a better shooter.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Kiki: My cousin Devon Saddler, he plays for the University of Delaware and Maya Moore.
695: Who is the funniest teammate you have ever had?
Kiki: Mekenzi Bess. One time we put toothpaste on a teammate's face while she was asleep. Then when we tickled her she smeared it all over her face. She woke up and chased us down the halls in the hotel.
699. What type of artists do you have on your ipod?
Kiki: Drake, Wale, Lil Wayne and J Cole
695: Can you dance or do you just stand around at the parties?
Kiki: I don’t have time for parties. It is all about basketball for me.
695: Tell me something about you that people might not know..
Kiki: When I was younger, I wanted to play quarterback in the rec league, but my mom wouldn’t let me.
695: Tell me about your recruiting process and how you chose Liberty...
Kiki: My recruiting experience went very well. I received a lot of letters, messages, emails and phone calls from a lot of colleges. When Liberty called it made me want to go visit. I went and met everybody including players, coaches, the coach's wife and the athletic advisor. The athletic director gave me some words of wisdom on why I should pick Liberty. I chose Liberty because of the atmosphere and the people. I felt comfortable and it felt like home.
695: Congrats. What are you going to major in?
Kiki: I want to major in Sports Management because I want to do something I love doing.
695: Now that you have that out of the way what is your focus for this season?
Kiki: My focus is to keep my grades at A's and B's and to win another state championship.
695: Thanks for your time, good luck this season.
Kiki: Thank you.
