695: How did you get started playing ball?

Kirby: When I moved to Maryland in 2002 from Houston, TX, I joined Northwest Stars – a basketball and skills program in the Greater Washington area. From then I started playing AAU basketball.

695: Where did you grow up?

Kirby: I was born in Houston, TX, but we moved to Maryland when I was 5 and we’ve been here ever since.

695: Which AAU teams have you played for?

Kirby: I’ve played for DC Heat (Coach Jay Nolan).

695: What is your best memory from playing high school ball?

Kirby: My best memory was this past high school season. We won the ISL Conference Championship banner for the first time in 6 years and then we went on to win the ISL Tournament Championship at the end of the season.

695: What do you need to add to your game for college?

Kirby: In preparing to play both the 2 & 3 positions in college, I am working on increasing my 3-point shooting accuracy.

695: Who is your favorite player?

Kirby: LeBron James.

695: What other hobbies do you have besides basketball?

Kirby: I love traveling to new places. I volunteer in my church as well as other community service projects. I also enjoy writing.

695: Tell me about the recruiting experience...how did you decide to go to Harvard?

Kirby: Harvard is the perfect balance of academics and basketball. I feel Harvard is a great fit for my career interest in sports management. I love the coaches and feel there is a really good fit with the players. I’m very excited about the players Harvard has recruited and the talent in future classes. I feel I can continue to develop and have an impact on Harvard’s program.

695: Tell me about a memorable basketball road trip...

Kirby: I went to San Francisco with my high school team during my sophomore year and it was one of the best experiences. After the tournament was over, we went downtown and hung out.

695: Name some artists you have on your iPod/iPhone...

Kirby: Anything by Drake goes on to my iPhone.

695:  Who is winning the 695Hoops Senior Shoot Out this year DC or Baltimore? And are you playing?

Kirby: DC. I will be there.
