695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
South Carroll high school's Makeba Ndifang has signed with the Naval Academy. Makeba is a six foot forward/center who plays with passion and intensity. Her physical style and leadership ability had several D1 schools recruiting her. We caught up to Ms Ndifang for a quick one on one.
695: How did you get started playing ball?
Makeba: I got started with organized ball when I moved to Mt. Airy in the 7th grade.
695: Where did you grow up?
Makeba: I was born in Berlin, Germany and then moved to America half way through the 6th grade.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Makeba: Central Maryland Attitude, Maryland Sure Shots and Maryland Grizzlies.
695: Have you played any other sports?
Makeba: I played volleyball my freshman year but I didn't stick with it.
695: What other hobbies do you have?
Makeba: love singing and music in general. I was a part of my high schools Vocal Ensemble for 2 years but had to quit because it began to conflict with my basketball schedule
695: Can you sing?
Makeba: Yes, I can sing.
695: You have any demos or videos on youtube?
Makeba: Sadly, I don't. I'd have to ask my chorus teacher for recordings.
695: What do you listen to before a game?
Makeba: Anything Hip Hop. Usually Tupac, Drake, Biggie or Mac Miller.
695: Ok, tell me about your recruiting process. How was that first call from a college coach?
Makeba: I remember being super nervous.. But it wasn't bad at all we pretty much just talked about my day to day life.
695: How did you decide on Navy? Who else was in the picture?
Makeba: At first I didn't know much about the Naval Academy. But once I got the chance to get on campus and meet the coaches and players I felt like it was something I was interested in. After that I just did research and ultimately liked what I was finding out about the Academy. Its an opportunity like no other and I'll be able to go beyond being a college athlete. Delaware State, College of Charleston, Mount St. Mary's, Hofstra and Carnegie Mellon were other schools I was looking at.
695: Do you have a military commitment after college? What is your major?
Makeba: Yes, there is a 5 year commitment and I'm not sure about my major. I'm leaning towards chemistry.
695: What do you want to add to your game for the next level?
Makeba: I want to be able to shoot jumpers from further out.
695: Tell me about something funny that happened during a basketball road trip...
Makeba: A fun moment this past season was going to a Japanese Steak house with my MD Grizzlies team. We had a really funny chef and he threw shrimp at us.
695: I hope he didn't add that to the bill.
695: What position are you most comfortable playing?
Makeba: I like playing the 4 or 5.
695: Thanks and good luck with everything.
Makeba: Thank you.
