Baltimore Poly's Maya Horne signed her National Letter of Intent to play at Glenville State in West Virginia. The talented 5'5" point guard has played in some big games throughout her career so we expect her to contribute right away to her college program. She answered some questions for 695Hoops.

695: How old were you when you started playing ball?
Maya: I fell in love with the sport at the age of two and started playing at the age of eight.
695: How did you get started?
Maya: From what my parents tell me I was mesmorized watching my dad play growing up so when I was eight I started with the Lady Lions.
695: Where did you grow up?
Maya: I grew up in East Baltimore by Harford road in a community called Hamilton.
695: Did you play any other sports besides basketball growing up?
Maya: I played football just with the boys at my school in elementary at recess but for a team I played volleyball in high school too.
695: Which AAU teams did you play for?
Maya: I played with the Baltimore Lady Lions from age 8 to16. My last AAU season I played with the Baltimore Charm.
695: Tell me about a funny basketball road trip...
Maya: I can't really go into detail too much because that'll be a lot, but one was not with my team but with my family. My grandparents and some more of my family drove all the way to Atlanta for an AAU tournament, it was a lot of laughs that road trip.
695: Who is the funniest teammate you have had so far?
Maya: The funniest teammate I ever had was a girl named Bria from Pennsylvania that played with me for the Lady Lions.
695: What other hobbies do you have besides playing ball?
Maya: Shopping, hanging with friends, playing other sports with my family and friends, movies and eating food. I love food.
695: What do you listen to on game day?
Maya: I listen to neo soul music and r&B like Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker, the Weeknd, Drake, Logic,Jill Scott,J.Cole, Maxwell. Artists like that.
695: Talk about the recruiting process and how you chose Glenville State...
Maya: Glenville was like one of the first schools to show interest. I enjoyed the school and they were really interested in me, but we lost touch and they fell off in recruiting. So then later on I saw the assistant coach at the 695Hoops Senior Shoot Out talking to my coach Kendall Peace. He was saying we still want her while I'm sitting talking to the assistant coach at Wilmington University, (laughing). So I asked what happened and they said there was a mix up in recruiting but I was kind of disappointed because I really liked them.I didn't think they were serious but the assistant coach Cody Gilmore told me he was going to do whatever it took to make me a Pioneer. Shortly after that they sent over the scholarship papers.I talked to my parents, discussed other schools and deals, and then I called the coach and I said "I want to commit to you guys". So it was a pretty funny process.
695: What do you want to add or improve in your game for the next level?
Maya: I think I need to add entry passing to the post in my game. We're going to have a lot of good post players and it'll be my job to feed them the ball. I want to improve my mid range shooting and find that third gear of speed that separates me from all other guards in the D2 game and conference.
695: What are you planning to major in at Glenville?
Maya: I'll be majoring in Biology to lead me into my career as a chemical engineer.
695: Thanks and good luck.
Maya: Thank you.
