695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Spalding forward Sierra Clark is headed to St. Francis in Pennsylvania for college. The 2013 graduate is known for being a relentless rebounder and interior defender. She bounced back nicely from an injury in her junior season to help the Cavaliers win the IAAM A conference title, as she displayed an improved offensive game. She spoke to 695Hoops about the season and her recruiting experience.
695: How did you get started playing ball?
Sierra: I got started playing basketball at a pretty late age my mom and dad both played d1 college basketball and my little sister was starting to play as well so I kind of felt left out. So I decided to pick up a ball and worked hard to be my best and now I can't put it down.
695: Where did you grow up?
Sierra: I grew up in Upper Marlboro,MD and have lived here my whole life.
695: Have you ever played any other sports?
Sierra: I used to run track before I started playing basketball. I also tried swimming and soccer but found out maybe a week or two after beginning them that neither sport was for me.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Sierra: I played for Dreammakers, Lady Lakers, I finished my last two years with Alana Beard's Future.
695: What is your favorite memory of playing for Spalding?
Sierra: My favorite memory of playing for Spalding was winning the IAAM championship, which was my first championship and also us blasting music and having our random break outs of dancing in the locker room on game days.
695: Who is the funniest teammate you have had?
Sierra: My funniest teammate ever would either be Raven Makins or Aleah Epps there was never a dry moment when they were around.
695: Talk about the recruiting process...how was that first call from a college coach?
Sierra: The recruiting process was very stressful for me...since I missed my most of my junior season due to injury, a lot of colleges dropped off because no one knew how fast or if I would fully recover. St Francis was a school that stuck out my rough patch and really showed me more than just good basketball. My first call I received was from Coach Joe Haigh and we just talked about what I was looking for in choosing schools and just asked me to take a serious look at St Francis. I decided on St Francis because they have a really good program and on top of that they have a good community that cares about your academic as well as athletic success. It was just a perfect fit.
695: Who is your favorite player?
Sierra: My favorite player is Brittney Griner, I love her game and how she comes onto the floor and dominates just about every game. Also the fact that she has so many haters and doesn't ever feed into the media she just lets her game speak for itself and I respect that.
695: What do you want to add to your game for the next level?
Sierra: I want to improve on the offensive end of my game by working on my ball handling and outside shot so that I will be able to have a great all around game.
695: Can you dance or do you just hold up the walls at parties?
Sierra: Well I'm not a professional dancer or anything but I don't hold up any walls! I just love having fun! And at parties I just do my own thing but I am never standing still!
695: What are you going to major in?
Sierra: My major next year is going to be Communications and my focus is going to be on broadcast journalism. I am also thinking about minoring in law
695: Thanks for your time.
Sierra: Thank you.
