695: How old were you when you started playing?
Teira: I was 7 years old and I started playing in a Pikesville league.
695: Where did you grow up?
Teira: I grew up in Baltimore.
695: Have you played any other sports?
Teira: Yes. When I was younger I swam, played softball and soccer. I started playing volleyball in the 11th grade and really grew to like it. It helped me develop into more of a vocal leader because that was a necessity in volleyball.
695: Which AAU teams have you played for?
Teira: I began by joining the Maryland Sure Shots. I then began playing with the Baltimore Cougars, which later turned into Team Melo. After a short spurt with Team Melo, the name was changed to Baltimore's Finest. I finished my AAU career with Team Maryland/Maryland Lady Shooting Stars. I am very lucky in the fact that I had the same AAU coach, Tim Burroughs, for my entire AAU career.
695: Tell me about a funny basketball road trip...
Teira: There is so many to choose from ! I think the funniest would be the various dance battles in the hotel rooms. It was always funny watching Da-Da
( Dyzhanay Burton) and Deja Carroll battle each other. I could never dance so I always recorded!
695: Who is your favorite player?
Teira: My favorite player is Kevin Durant. He is just so versatile in all aspects of the game and a great leader. He shows his game by actions instead of words. I try to be that type of player.
695: What else do you do besides play ball?
Teira: Besides playing basketball, I like to volunteer at my grandmother's daycare center. I fell in love with helping children and I want to be a pediatrician when I grow up. I also volunteer as a softball manager at my school.
695: Talk about the recruiting process and how you ended up at Lincoln University...
Teira: The recruiting process was definitely a struggle for me. It didn't seem like I was going to get a scholarship from anywhere in the beginning of my senior year. However, I continued to work through the year and I had interest from Cheyney University, The Lincoln University, and the University of Bridgeport.I visited all three schools and just felt at home at The Lincoln University. It was a nice, small, and family-oriented environment where I could definitely prosper on and off the court. It also is only about an hour away from home, which gives my family a chance to come and support me at my games.
695: What do you need to improve to excel at the next level?
Teira: In order to excel at the college level, I need to improve on my ball-handling and shooting. I will be playing the 3 at Lincoln, so I definitely want to be able to assist with handling the ball, as well as being able to shoot 3's and knock down the open jump shot.
695: What are you majoring in at Lincoln?
Teira: I plan on majoring in Biology. I want to become a pediatrician, so I plan to attend medical school after I receive my undergraduate degree.
695: What do you listen to before a game?
Teira: I actually like to listen to slow songs before a game to calm me down. I listen to Destiny's Child and Beyonce a lot.
695: Thanks and good luck in college.
Teira: Thank you.
