695HOOPS WHERE IT'S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Gisselle Truiett recently signed with the University of Illinois at Chicago. It took longer than expected but the versatile guard who is known for tenacious defense is happy to have found a division one school where she can compete and get the education that was her main goal.
Gisselle at her press conference to announce that she is signing with the University of Illinois@Chicago.
Part 2 of interview:
695: How was the recruiting process for you?
Gisselle: At first the recruiting process was great. I had about twenty d1 schools in contact with me, but as time went on and it came time to visit schools, my options starting disappearing. So it became really hard and brutal for me but I had the help and support of my family and coaches. But especially my dad and God. Without them none of this wouldve happened.
695: You did a few visits to different parts of the country. How did you like Chicago?
Gisselle: I loved chicago and I can't wait to move up there. It was an adventure for me touring the city because it was my first time visiting. I got to see many things that a lot of people couldn't like the Jordan statue and a glimpse of Oprah's studio. Chicago is definitely full of life and culturally diverse.
695: What was so important about D1 as opposed to the D2 offers you got?
Gisselle: D1 was important to me because I've worked for this goal for 7 or 8 years now and I know I didn't deserve any less. I could've hung out with my friends or sleep in until twelve but I didn't.I was up at the gym 5 in the morning or practicing dribbling drills at the court. So it's not like playing at a D2 level is bad or anything it's just that I know what I've worked for.
695: What do you need to work on to compete at that level?
Gisselle: I need to work on consistent form with my jumpshot so that when I'm tired in a game I'm still shooting the right way and accurately. But all around I need to work on everything from getting stronger to rebounding because if you want to be the best you have to work on all aspects of the game.
695: Are you all set with your major?
Gisselle: Yes, I'm all set. I plan to get my doctorate's degree in Physical Therapy and upon completion of the program I'd also have a degree in Kinesiology.
695: I'm not sure what that is but it sounds impressive and I'm proud of you. Good luck with everything.
Gisselle: Thanks Coach.
