New Balance and USJN offered an individual showcase for players on Thursday night before the live period kicked off. About 60 prospects gathered at the First Financial Center to compete in a different environment before joining their teams. Always 100 director Keith Edmonds gathered and huddled with the players, and kept things organized with the help of several other coaches who ran the teams during the scrimmages. Here are some players that stood out.
Sophia Calhoun, 2029, Over The Edge, Loyola Academy, Guard/Forward
Sophia was one of the top performers in the event. At 5’11” she has the size and strength to play power forward, and the skill set to play guard. She showed off her diverse skill set and was dominant in the game I watched. She has range out to the three point line and the ball handling and passing skills to impact the game inside the arc.
Aubrey Pumphrey Solomon, 2029, Florida Nation, Marcus Norris, Combo Guard
Aubrey had a strong showcase. Her perimeter shot looked good and she was comfortable playing off the ball and setting up teammates. She showed off good vision and versatility. College coaches should check for her this weekend as she has excellent size at 5’11” and a strong feel for the game.
Ava Emberton, 2029, Always 100, Brownsburg, Point Guard
Ava caught my eye immediately with her slick ball handling and passing. She’s a crafty lefty guard and she went hard from the opening tip. She’s fiery and very vocal on defense, but I was really impressed with her accurate passes and strong finishes at the rim. She showed off her range by knocking down a couple of threes.
Annika Hastings, 2028, Team Prodigy, Kamiak High, Guard/Forward
Annika was one of the best shooters in the event and college coaches should check for her this weekend. In addition to being a knock down shooter, she showed great court vision and awareness and threw some nice skip passes that caught the defense off guard. Excellent showcase performance.
Amyah Heyliger, 2027, Power Move, Severn School, Point Guard
Not every player approaches an individual showcase with a defense first mentality, but then there’s Amyah Heyliger. She immediately brought the heat and applied intense on ball pressure to any ball handlers she encountered. In addition to her defensive impact she also attacked the basket aggressively and set her teammates up with some nice passes.
Delaney Madigan, 2028, Always 100 Thunder, Livonia Stevenson, Combo Guard/Wing
Delaney showed some toughness, fighting through screens and crashing the boards. She good length and athleticism and showed that she is a pure shooter by knocking down several long jumpers.
Autumn Johnson-Bittle, 2027, Power Move, City College, Wing
Big guard/wing who crashed the offensive glass and brought some hustle plays to her team. She got out in transition and got a couple of easy buckets for her efforts.
Abby Leimeister, 2029, Buckeye State Blast, Guard
Abby showed off some blazing speed to go along with some excellent ball handling. She cooked everyone that tried to guard her on on one and threw some serious no look and behind the back passes. Very fun player to watch.
Justyce Long, 2030, Just Play Elite, Aldine Davis High, Guard/Wing
Justyce caught my eye with her ability to deliver accurate post entry passes. She looked real comfortable handling the ball and facilitating offense. At 5’11” she has great positional length and good upper body strength. She nailed a couple of long threes in the game I watched and I liked her balance and the way she played off two feet.
Khloe Dick, 2028, Always 100 Thunder, Bluffton High, Combo Guard
Khloe showed off deep range on her shot with some catch and shoot threes and a couple where she just pulled up from the near the logo. She also showed some nice touch on mid range game and a good, explosive first step. She played physical on both ends of the court and didn’t back down from any contact.
